Loading bays

A loading bay is a recessed area in a building where lorries are loaded and unloaded and are commonly found on warehouses, commercial and industrial buildings.

Loading docks may be exterior, flush with the building, or fully enclosed. They typically provide direct access to staging areas, storage rooms and freight elevators.

Loading Bays Specifications:

To enable the handling of goods and products loading docks may be equipped with the following:

  • Dock leveller – a height-adjustable platform used as a bridge between dock and lorry which can be operated by mechanical or hydraulic systems..
  • Buffers – protect the dock from lorry damage and may also be used as a guide by the lorry driver when backing up.
  • Dock light – a movable light mounted inside the dock which is used to light the interior of the lorry during loading.
  • Dock Shelters – protect loaded goods from poor weather conditions, also saving costs by minimising heat loss.
